Suggestions that Formula 1 supremo Bernie Eccleston has managed to have his trial on charges of paying a £27.5 million bribe transferred from a Munich court to the English northeast — and turned up in a Monoco-style gin palace — have sadly been scotched.

Reports from Tyneside said the Soverign — which is valued at just about the same amount as the pint-sized motorracing boss is accused of flashing as a bung — has an unknown owner, but we reckon it is not likely to be Bernie. Nonetheless, it’s a good excuse to re-run this classic moment when the King of Grand Prix failed to understand the princple of a revolving door at London’s High Court last November.
