Legal Cheek talks… corporate law firm perks

By on

Are they really worth it?

Law firm perks are all the rage in the City right now.

Students can’t move for complimentary pens, notepads, water bottles and phone chargers at university law fairs, but just because you’ve graduated doesn’t mean firms will stop giving you free stuff.

Sushi chefs, vaccinations, iPhones — these are just some of the freebies being offered to trainees and solicitors in some of the United Kingdom’s best corporate outfits.

In the week Legal Cheek revealed the top ten best law firm perks in London, journalists Katie King and Thomas Connelly debate whether these handouts are worthy of praise or just lame gimmicks.

Corporate iPhones are not “perks”. These are more like golden handcuffs , chaining you to work 24/7.

Err… I work in a Legal Aid firm and we’re given iPhones with unlimited data and allowed to use them for both personal and business use, so probably not a perk as such…

Does working at Legal Cheek provide any perks?

why, oh why, would a firm want its staff to be as fit as possible?

sick day = no bill day.

a lawyer in these types of firms is not a person. its a bill creating machine. it needs to be fed, watered and, occasionally, allowed to sleep. its maintaining the machine and your investment. its nothing to do with caring. dont be confused.

Correct, but in fairness to the legal industry (which as an ex lawyer is something I never thought I’d say) this is true of every business in every industry.

It is nice Alex is in the background of this one, although I do feel he has lost a little to much weight … he is almost skeletal now!
