A big day for Chambers & Partners

lead1

Twitter went crazy yesterday after one social media user spotted that the law firm representing Donald Trump had bagged a Chambers & Partners’ “Russia Law firm of the Year” award.

The President-elect’s lawyer Sheri Dillon — a top tax lawyer at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius — addressed a number of journalists at Trump Tower in New York yesterday afternoon.

Speaking for around 20 minutes prior to Trump taking the stage, she said the billionaire plans to “completely isolate” himself from his business operations once he enters the White House next Friday. Dillon — who is based at the global law firm’s Washington DC office — also confirmed that Trump’s sons would be overseeing her client’s business empire during his time in office:

Together Eric and Alan have the authority to manage the Trump organisation and will make decisions for the duration of the presidency without any involvement whatsoever by President-elect Trump.

Important revelations, but Twitter was more interested in something else…

Unfortunately for Trump — who has been playing down his connections with Putin and co in recent weeks — one tweeter spotted that Morgan, Lewis & Bockius had been handed a “Russia Law Firm of the Year” award by London-based legal directory Chambers & Partners.

Tweeting his discovery, Gabe Ortíz included a screenshot of Chambers & Partners’ original social media post, which trumpets the firm’s success in Russia.

Going viral, Ortíz’s tweet quickly gathered traction and amassed almost 15,000 retweets. The finding left some users shocked:

While others didn’t really think it was that big of a deal:

Either way it was great publicity for Chambers & Partners.
