Keys to the Inn

These monstrous keys allow access to The Old Hall at Lincoln’s Inn. A tablet on the outside of the north wall records that the hall was built “in the fifth year of King Henry VII” — who came to the throne in 1485.

The hall also functioned as a court in the early 1700s and provided the backdrop to the opening scene of “Bleak House” by Charles Dickens. Today it provides the setting for private banqueting events, lectures and qualifying sessions for students.

With a hall with such a grand history, it’s only fitting that it should have such a grand set of keys.
