Just two sponsored posts a week racks up earnings higher than a magic circle trainee

A pair of entrepreneurial law students are paying their way through university by promoting products on their popular Instagram profiles.

The 20-year-old twins — Stephanie Baessler (top left) and Julia Baessler (top right) — are both in the process of completing law degrees at the University of Vienna in Austria. However, unlike most aspiring lawyers their age, they may well graduate debt free.

This is not least because tuition in Austria is nominal when compared to the United Kingdom, but because the German-born duo are cashing in on their vast social media fame.

The Baessler twins — who have a combined following on Instagram of almost 400,000 — are paid to promote health supplements and fitness clothing on their pages.

And it’s clear to see why companies are willing to chuck a little of their marketing budget the twins’ way. Sometimes pictured in exotic sun-soaked locations such as Dubai and Portugal, the law students regularly clock up in excess of 5,000 likes on their posts.

While it’s not clear how much the twins pocket from their snaps, Stephanie and Julia’s respective followings of 189,000 and 202,000 could earn them about £500 per post. Two sponsored posts a week would see them earn £52,000 a year, more cash than any magic circle trainee in London would get.

Think that’s a lot of money, reports suggest that celebrities at the very top of their social media game can command eye-watering levels of cash. Rumour has it reality TV star Kim Kardashian, who has 104 million followers, can charge £380,000 per post, while footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 115 million Instagram fans, reportedly charges around £300,000 per ad.

The latest comments from across Legal Cheek

This isn’t the first time a law student has racked up a sizeable social media following.

In 2015, Legal Cheek reported that Lancaster University fitness fanatic Saffron Sheriff had amassed a whopping 24,000 followers. At the time, we revealed that Sheriff could earn £31,200 a year by posting just two sponsored images a week — a salary that would make some trainees turn green with envy. The Instagrammer now has over 51,000 followers and is currently a paralegal at DWF.
