All in day’s work for Garden Court’s James Scobie QC
A top London-based criminal barrister has become the unintentional star of a grime video after representing a rapper in an alleged gang-related shooting.
James Scobie QC, a member of Garden Court Chambers, appears alongside rapper and YouTube sensation Trapstar Toxic, real name Tokyi Ajibola, in a music video (embedded below) called ‘Out Ere’. Released earlier this month, the video — which has already clocked up over 300,000 views on YouTube — features cars, bling, champagne, and a slightly perplexed looking silk.
Ajibola was cleared of two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm following a three-week trial at the Old Bailey in October, according to a statement on Garden Court’s website. It reveals that Ajibola was represented by Scobie and fellow chamber mate Laura Profumo.
The music video, produced by Toxic and the Ice City Boyz, shows the grinning grime artist wearing a thick diamond chain and shaking Scobie’s hand outside what appears to be the entrance of the Old Bailey.
At the end of the video, the credits give a special a shout out to the Garden Court barrister and the rest of Ajibola’s legal team. Scobie is yet to responded to Legal Cheek’s request for comment: perhaps he’s too busy tearing up the grime scene.
