Brunel University (GDL)

The Legal Cheek View

Known for its more “personalised” approach to teaching, the Brunel law school, located in London’s northwestern suburbs, favours smaller class sizes. But this does not mean compromising on quality: as one insider notes “they have lecturers from Oxford and UCL!!!”

Insiders have described the quality of feedback as “personal” and “unlike commoditised providers”. This suggests that the tutors take their time with students, a refreshing change indeed. Though one student wasn’t quite as impressed: “Advanced physics would make more sense than their feedback”.

As it’s part of a wider university (unlike the BPPs or ULaws of this world), the law school at Brunel also scores pretty well on its social life. Insiders say that there’s a “dedicated onsite nightclub”. There’s nothing wrong with GDL students gatecrashing the undergrads’ fresher’s week. Indeed, your GDL experience is likely to feel like you’re “back at uni”, and one student regrets that now doing the LPC with another provider feels “very different”.

At only a couple of hundred pounds cheaper than ULaw and BPP, one student describes Brunel’s value for money, slightly bizarrely, as “like going to a very good restaurant and having a raw, chewy piece of steak served to you leading to life-threatening diarrhoea”.

Still, there’s no doubt that Brunel has has delivered for committed students in the past.
