In our latest career conundrum submission, a future trainee who has already accepted a TC is wondering whether they can jump ship for a Magic Circle offer — and what consequences they might face.
“Hi there, I accepted a TC offer because I applied to a number of firms in the past year, but struggled to secure even a vac scheme. My TC will start in 2028 and I sit the SQE in 2027. I have since graduated and received a 1st Class degree from a top uni. I’ve now also received a TC offer from a Magic Circle firm. Can I renege on my accepted TC offer to take one from the Magic Circle firm without consequences or penalties? Pls advise.”
