#RoundMyKitchenTable: LAWYERS AND PR

Legal Cheek editor Alex Aldridge, whose flat’s central heating is broken, turns on his oven in a bid to warm up his kitchen sufficiently for guests Rachel Podolak, communications manager of the Bar Standards Board (BSB), and Elizabeth Mercer, public relations adviser at Pinsent Masons, a City law firm that also publishes legal blogs Out-law and Bootlaw.

Politely ignoring the thick black smoke billowing out of Aldridge’s oven, which needs a clean, Podolak and Mercer share their views on whether lawyers are any good at PR.

The pair, courageously battling intensifying impulses to faint from smoke inhalation, also explain the steps law graduates should take if they want to get into the communications game.

“Co-host” Kevin Poulter, a lawyer at Bircham Dyson Bell, arrives so late that he misses the podcast, but thankfully in time to drag Podolak, Mercer and Aldridge from the kitchen into the safety of the hallway.
