Three law firms make top 10 of Stonewall list, seven more in top 100 — and one granted “star performer” status. Plus the CPS is there too

The huge strides made by City law firms in recent years to become more accepting of gay people have been recognised by LGBT charity Stonewall.

The new 2015 top 100 gay-friendly employers list features ten firms, several of which have climbed in the table since last year — with, for the first time, three in the top ten.

Plus there’s a new entrant, with the London office of US giant Cleary Gottlieb making it into the list for the first time. And there’s a special award for LGBT pioneer Simmons & Simmons, which has been deemed so gay-friendly as to be elevated beyond the top 100 to be granted “star performer” status.

And it’s not just corporate law firms which have made the list — the Crown Prosecution Service and its Scottish equivalent, the Crown Office & Procurator Fiscal Service, are also in there, coming in at, respectively, 65th and 8th place.

Last year the Stonewall list featured ten law firms and no star performer. Only one firm, Simmons & Simmons, featured in the top ten.

Who is the nation’s top LGBT employer for 2015, you may be wondering? That accolade went to the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, with Tower Hamlets Homes and Lloyds Banking Group in second and third place. The full list is here.
