Thursday 12 February, 4pm to 5:30pm, taking place virtually

Join us on the afternoon of Thursday 12 February for Legal Cheek’s latest virtual student event, in partnership with BARBRI, designed to support aspiring solicitors as they navigate the practical challenges of funding the SQE, maintaining wellbeing, and securing qualifying work experience alongside their studies.
The event is informed by new research from BARBRI and Legal Cheek examining how the SQE is working five years after its roll-out. Drawing on responses from more than 500 candidates, the findings reveal a clear gap between exam readiness and workplace confidence, alongside persistent challenges around QWE, funding and work-life balance.
Time: 4pm to 5:30pm
Location: Virtual event
Level: Students, Graduates
These findings will form the backbone of the discussion, which will explore why candidates struggle to secure QWE, how financial pressures shape decisions around SQE prep, and what practical steps students can take to protect their wellbeing while balancing study, work and other commitments. The panel will also consider how aspiring solicitors can bridge the gap between exam success and practice readiness.
The panel will bring together BARBRI students from a range of backgrounds, alongside a member of the BARBRI team, to unpack the report’s findings and share practical advice drawn from their own experiences. Together, they will discuss funding routes, approaches to securing and completing QWE, and strategies for managing the demands of the SQE in a sustainable way.
Following short talks and a panel discussion, there will be an opportunity to meet the speakers and chat virtually with current SQE students.
