As legal aid implodes and training contract numbers plummet to the lowest level since 1999, DLA Piper has sensitively decided to hire a 3,634 berth luxury cruise liner to take its partners on a four-night jolly from Barcelona to Nice…

The firm, which has risen from humble roots in Sheffield to be crowned the world’s largest law firm by revenue last month, is believed to be spending rather a lot of money on the trip, which will take place later this month.

According to the website of DLA’s cruise liner of choice, Royal Caribbean, chartering the ship in question for four nights during peak season costs a cool £2 million.

On top of that the firm will have to fork out for flights to take its partners to and from their wonderful holiday meeting and booze (not included in Royal Caribbean’s pricing).

As US blog Above the Law puts it, “Dear God, the booze. With 22 bars, clubs, and lounges, that bill shall know no limits.”
