The Apprentice returns to television screens next week with 16 new entrepreneurial-minded contestants ready to do battle in Lord Sugar’s boardroom — and we are pleased to report two have a background in law.

The first, Kurran Pooni, is an “aspiring commercial transactions lawyer & civil litigator”, according to his LinkedIn. The 22-year-old recently graduated with an LLB from the University of Law (ULaw) and has completed a number of work placements including a winter vacation scheme at global law firm DLA Piper.

Speaking ahead of his appearance on the BBC’s hit show, the sharp-dressing London-based law grad said: “I’ll be honest, I don’t eat, sleep, breathe business but I do eat, sleep and breathe success.”

His Instagram profile, which remains public for now, suggests Pooni is a fan of the finer things in life. Uploads include a shot of what appears to be his flash gold Rolex (alongside a copy of the receipt), while another shows him perched on the bonnet of a red Ferrari.

The second legally-minded contestant is Sarah Ann Magson, a 37-year-old solicitor at Watson Woodhouse Solicitors in Middlesbrough. Northumbria law grad Magson heads up the outfit’s civil litigation team and specialises in actions against public authorities and criminal injury cases, according to her firm profile (pictured below).

Magson’s LinkedIn shows she is also the director of Little Arrivals, a Stockton-based company that sells baby furniture and nursery accessories. Ahead of the show, she confidently proclaimed: “I am used to laying down the law in the courtroom, but now I’m going to lay down the law in the boardroom.”

Pooni and Magson aren’t the first lawyers to take part in the popular show. St Albans family lawyer Lauren Riley and ex-Slaughter and May associate Felipe Alviar-Baquero appeared on The Apprentice back in 2014, while University of Nottingham law grad Elliot Van Emden popped up on last year’s series.
