Expanded lists now feature 90 firms — each with a Legal Cheek View and Insider Scorecard ranking

The definitive student guide to the leading corporate law firms in the UK has gone live with its 2019 version.

The new Legal Cheek Firms Most List features nearly 90 law firms, including all the magic circle, the major US MoneyLaw firms in London, UK-based global elite players and all of the top mid-tier outfits.

The can be sorted in order of pretty much everything — from number of training contracts offered to trainee and newly qualified salaries; from diversity to latest retention rates; from average leave the office time to highest chance of doing an international secondment.

The 2019 Firms Most List

Each firm in the lists has a detailed profile, containing an extensive ‘The Legal Cheek View’ analysis of what they’re like as a place to work and how they have been performing recently, alongside an Insider Scorecard with the grades they received in the Legal Cheek Trainee and Junior Lawyer Survey 2018-19.

Twenty new firms feature in this year’s list. They include solicitors to the royal family Farrer & Co, regional powerhouses Royds Withy King, Foot Anstey and Ashfords and US giants Debevoise & Plimpton and Milbank.

The profiles are also a jumping off point to firms’ social media and graduate recruitment pages.

Check out also Legal Cheek’s Key Deadlines Calendar, containing all the major firms’ graduate recruitment deadlines, and the new Legal Cheek iPhone app with key deadline alerts straight to your phone.

Lmao @ the so-called “regional powerhouse” Royds

75% of Royds associates are female, yet only 30% of partners are female. I’d power my way into that house.

(5)(1)

Anal powerhouse

Top bantz

So many US firms missing from these lists.

(7)(1)

I’m missing Arnold & Porter or Curtis Mallet-Prevost. Both hire trainees and are top top titan mega US Moneylaw firms

Greenberg Glusker?

“including … all the major US MoneyLaw firms in London”

Where are Paul Hastings, Willkie Farr, Brown Rudnick, Bracewell, Cadwalader, Goodwin Procter, etc? Oh wait, presumably they’re not paying for sponsored content…

(10)(6)

Anonymous

You may have a point, but it’s quite a generous definition of ‘major’ you’re employing there – not a single one of these firms has an annual trainee intake above single digits.

(10)(2)

Anonymous

No, but trainee numbers is most certainly not the only criteria on the Firms Most List

Simpson Thacher, Greenberg Traurig, Watchell, Vinson and Elkins?

(8)(1)

Wachtell Lipton

Watchell eh? Learn to spell first you semi-literate peasant.

(11)(1)

Wachtell don’t even have a London office you ninnies

(8)(2)

Anonymous

It’s called Macfarlanes. Perhaps you’ve heard of them?

Anonymous

Rofl u high bruv?

Anonymous

Don’t know why this is being downvoted- Macfarlanes is Wachtell’s go to firm in London

Anonymous

Oh and that makes them the same firm, does it?

What a spud

Lmaooo

Do you always struggle to identify humour, spud?

Morrison Foerster, O’Melveney, Wilmerhale…..Come on, if you are going to publish a comparison table then make it comprehensive.

Dorsey & Whitney, Proskauer, McDermott Will & Emery, Greenberg Glusker, Pillsbury Winthrop, Holland & Knight, Vedder Price, Baker Botts, Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle, Katten, Winston & Strawn.

What’s the NQ rate at Greenberg Glusker? Top top firm.

Anonymous

Who is this person conducting a single-handed PR campaign on LC for Greenberg Glusker that involves callling them a “top top firm“? Random mid-tier US firm

Anonymous

Greenberg Glusker is a top top firm. Fact.

Anonymous

Absolute nonsense, sorry. Have you heard of the Vault 100 rankings? They’re pretty much the definitive ranking for US firms.

Greenberg Glusker don’t even feature in the top 100, putting them below such heavyweight names as Squire Patton Boggs, Reed Smith and Dentons.

A US head office and a waspy sounding name does not a ‘top’ US firm make

Yehuda Schekelburg-Glusker

Waspy sounding name? You’re avin’ a laugh!

Anonymous

Nonsense. Beats those firms listed any day.

Anonymous

Greenberg Traurig?

Anonymous

Do they have a London office? Currently applying for training contracts and thought I may as well but can’t find the TC information.

Anonymous

I dream of working for a top titan like Greenberg Glusker

Anonymous

Well, for O’Melveney you shall search A&O. Good the rest

(0)(0)

Anonymous

They aren’t major US MoneyLaw firms.

(1)(2)

Anonymous

Yes they are. Most are white shoe and Cadwalader is a NY institution.

(3)(0)

Anonymous

Fried Frank, Proskauer etc? What is the point of a comparison table when so many firms don’t appear?

(7)(0)

Anonymous

Rather than watching the Supreme Court’s Instagram story, you could do a little more research…

Here, Here!

Sigh

I would very much like to join the ERISA litigation team at Dorsey & Whitney when I qualify early next year. I have a mixed range of litigation experience but mainly in the motor claims, personal injury and shotgun license dispute sectors – what are my chances?

Delicious.

Skadden’s average arrival time of 9.15 and average leave time of 9.21… how do I join?

(25)(0)

Anonymous

How do LC decide which US firms appear in the Firms Most List? There doesn’t appear to be any rational criteria.

(1)(0)

Anonymous

Depends on the number of shiny pennies they drop in Alex’s pocket.

(5)(0)

Anonymous

Kirkland is so overrated

(4)(3)

Anonymous

19% revenue increase in 2018 is outstanding.

(3)(1)

Anonymous

Nobody cares. They’re mediocre. Real lawyers work at Freshfields.

(3)(15)

Anonymous

Hahahah

(7)(0)

Anonymous

What? Freshfields has the highest number of Band 1 ranked partners in the city. Kirkland? Not so many. More importantly, they don’t have the systems for producing Band 1 talent – they have to buy them, from Freshfields.

Anonymous

Tell that to the rush of Freshfield partners joining US firms.

(18)(0)

Anonymous

What rush? One partner is not an exodus.

(2)(3)

Anonymous

Thoughts on all this Dublin talk?

(4)(0)

crock of shite, pal

That would be an ecumenical matter

Hey Trev, here is your list. You big boffin. Are you coming to quiz night?

(0)(1)

Trev

Maybe. What you wearing?

(1)(0)

Barry from the local

I was going to put on some jeans and maybe my Metallica t-shirt. Why do you need to know that? I might invite Dylan instead…

(0)(0)

Dylan

Sorry, mate. Can’t make it…

What if I told you that Alice was going to be there?

Last time I checked Fried Frank was on £134k actually. Sidley now is £130k as well.
