Do barristers really ‘christen’ their wigs?

In the Evening Standard today an unnamed criminal barrister discusses a ritual called “christening the wig”

He comments: “When you get your wig you’ve got to shag in it. You get more kudos if you do it with a cop.”

None of the barristers we contacted this afternoon admit to having partaken in this practice, although one told us: “I haven’t heard of it but it sounds like something that people at my chambers would do.”
