The first extended trailer of the eagerly-awaited Breaking Bad legal spinoff “Better Call Saul” has been released online

The series — which begins next month — focuses on the life of lawyer Saul Goodman before he met Walter White and got involved with the meth-making business. In it Saul goes by his “real name” of Jimmy McGill, which he was subsequently forced to change.

The two-minute clip (embedded below) shows a more gritty side to the usually happy-go-lucky lawyer, who is played by Bob Odenkirk. Set in the early period of his career we see Saul/Jimmy dealing with the stresses and strains of life in law, including a scene set in a corporate-looking firm called Hamlin Hamlin & McGill — which seems to features some sort of showdown.

Breaking Bad fans will note a familiar face in the shape of Jonathan Banks, who plays enforcer Mike Ehrmantraut in the hit show. Yet in ‘Better Call Saul’ — which is set in 2002 — Mike appears to be a parking attendant (see the screenshot below), with Saul having an argument with him over a fine in the clip.

Elsewhere in the teaser Saul is threatened by a menacing-looking man and dumped in the desert with his mouth taped shut — suggesting that his life was just as chaotic before he met Walter.

The series begins on February 8 on US television. There’s still no news regarding a UK release date, though the show is expected to arrive on Netflix across Europe shortly after completing its American run.
