City outfit Clyde & Co will bring its legal apprenticeship scheme to the north-east with the firm’s Newcastle outpost embracing the new recruitment initiative as of this September.

Today’s announcement builds upon the success of a similar apprenticeship scheme currently in place across the global firm’s London, Manchester and Guildford offices. Clyde & Co currently has 17 legal apprentices in total, all of whom were recruited between 2014 and 2015.

Initially seeking two college-leavers to start in September, Clydes will offer its new Newcastle-based recruits the opportunity to work towards their level 3 government-backed apprenticeship, which will see them become a paralegal after roughly two years.

To be eligible for the earn-while-you-learn scheme — which is operated in conjunction with CILEx Law School — students will need at least 3 Cs or above at A Level.

Caroline Walsh, head of recruitment at Clyde & Co said:

This expansion of legal apprenticeships into our Newcastle office continues our strategy of using apprenticeships for the recruitment and development of young talent. Previous intakes of apprentices have developed very well through mentoring by supervisors and excellent teaching by CILEx Law School, and we are confident that the new legal apprenticeship programme will deliver the same success.

Students have until 30 June to apply and further information can be found here.
