The University of Law’s Chester site

Though rumours have been around for some time now, the University of Law (ULaw) has made it official: its Chester campus is to relocate “nearer to the city centre” in September 2018.

Local press reports have made various suggestions about where staff and students could be relocated to including; Knights Court (Weaver Street), Pepper House (Pepper Street) and the Stream Mill Complex by Chester’s idyllic canal.

Knights Court

The Chester campus, one of ULaw’s eight nationally, is currently based out of an 18th century grade II-listed country house, Christleton Hall (pictured top), in the village of Christleton just outside Chester in 14 acres of “beautiful parkland”.

The move follows on from ULaw moving its York campus to Leeds in 2014, and from the sale and leaseback of its Bloomsbury campus around the same time.

Of the most recent proposal, Professor Andrea Nollent, Vice-Chancellor and CEO at the University of Law, commented:

For both our students and the law firms with whom we have close partnerships, our new location will bring them closer together in the city centre as part of Chester’s vibrant business community. Not only will this enhance our current offering but it will also create new opportunities, from which our students, staff and employers can benefit.

It is not clear what will happen to the current Campus site and the historic Christleton Hall. Local parish minutes suggest that developments are likely.

In other ULaw news, the university has announced that it is joining up with GISMA Business School in Berlin to offer four masters’ degree courses (in English) including MScs in Corporate Financial Management, International Marketing, Strategic Business Management, and Leadership and Human Resource Management from October 2017.

Post grad students will be based at the school’s Berlin campus in the Schöneberg area of the German capital.
