How to build a career at a US law firm in London — with lawyers from Cleary Gottlieb, Kirkland & Ellis, Shearman & Sterling and Skadden

Thursday 16 January 2020; open to all trainees and junior lawyers

Skadden’s co-head of private equity will be joined by associates from Cleary Gottlieb, Kirkland & Ellis and Shearman & Sterling at Legal Cheek’s latest junior lawyer event.

Richard Youle, whose meteoric rise from regional solicitor to US firm high flyer is the stuff of City law legend, will contrast his experiences with millennials Eloise Skinner, Hannah McCarthy and Michael Poolton.

With Skinner having arrived at Cleary after growing up on an East London council estate, McCarthy’s journey to Kirkland taking in a spell in US politics, Twitter and a magic circle law firm, and Oxford graduate Poolton reaching Shearman by a more conventional route, there will be an interesting range of perspectives.

Date: Thursday 16 January 2020
Time: 6pm to 9pm
Location: King's College London, Strand Campus
Level: Trainees, Junior Lawyers

The free event — held in partnership with US bar exam preparation course provider BARBRI — is open to all corporate and commercial junior lawyers and trainees.

It features a ten-minute TED-style presentation from each of the four speakers, where they will reflect on what they have learned so far in their careers, followed by a Q&A with audience questions chaired by a Legal Cheek journalist. There will then be drinks, canapés and networking with the speakers.
