Law, innovation and technology – with Eversheds Sutherland, Freeths, Shoosmiths and ULaw

Tuesday 12 March in Nottingham; open to all students

What does the wave of technological innovation that is sweeping through the legal profession mean for the next generation of lawyers?

That will be the central question at Legal Cheek’s latest event, ‘Law, innovation and technology’, held in association with The University of Law (ULaw) to mark the launch of its new Nottingham tech hub campus.

Sharing their views with an audience of students will be a panel of lawyers from a trio of leading law firms with major Nottingham operations: Eversheds Sutherland, Freeths and Shoosmiths.

The speakers

Simon McArdle, partner in the commercial team, Shoosmiths
Adam Watson, partner in the real estate team, Freeths
William Preston, trainee solicitor in the legal technology team, Eversheds
Chair: Aishah Hussain, reporter, Legal Cheek

The firms are all doing interesting things in the innovation space. Eversheds Sutherland, for example, recently launched its global innovation platform, IdeaDrop, a crowdsourcing mobile and web app developed for organisations to capture and curate ideas from employees. Freeths, meanwhile, is in the process of developing a new practice management system for roll-out across the firm later this year. And Shoosmiths has impressed the market with its Resource Solutions offering, a suite of services and products to help in-house legal teams manage their day to day workload. All the firms have recently been trialing legal artificial intelligence software.

During a Question Time-style panel discussion running from 6pm until 7:15pm students will be able to put questions on anything related to innovation and the legal profession to the speakers, who will also be sharing wider careers advice and application tips. Afterwards there will be drinks and networking with the speakers, trainees and members of the firms’ graduate recruitment teams.

Apply to attend below. You’ll be asked to submit a CV and two questions for the panel.
