The mismatch between Bar graduates and pupillages is about to get a whole lot worse…

dangerOne thing no one has mentioned in relation to the very serious travails of the criminal Bar is that 28.6% of all pupillages are in crime.

That’s by far the highest proportion of all practice areas – with the nearest rival, commercial, making up just 14% of pupillages.

If, as Attorney General Dominic Grieve suggested last week to Legal Cheek, the Bar is due to shrink substantially – with a restructuring of the way criminal legal work is handled accounting for much of that shrinkage – will somebody finally put a cap on Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) numbers?
