Law firms across the country have given the middle finger to solicitors’ stuffy stereotype this week, treating social media to some enchanting photos of knackered lawyers sprawled out on the floor.

Just take a look at this Simmons & Simmons partner, taking some much-needed time away from his desk to lie on the workplace carpet.

Things must be equally exhausting over at Addleshaw Goddard, where one lawyer decided it was only right to do the starfish during her time on the law firm floor.

And here’s a Freshfields lawyer, seemingly contemplating the meaning of life while hanging out in his T-shirt and shorts.

Back now to Simmons, where yet another lawyer has come down with a case of must-lie-on-the-floor-itis.

While a quick glance at these photos would make any level-headed spectator question what the hell is going on, this delightful array of tweets can all be explained.

For two days a year, law firms across the country take to the saddle and compete in a sponsored cycle in aid of Breast Cancer Care known as Tour de Law. Getting an unusual break from their desks, lawyers peddle away on stationary bikes installed in the firm’s offices, hence all the photos of sweaty solicitors.

Aside from the numerous lawyer collapses, other highlights from this year’s Tour De Law include one King & Spalding lawyer deciding to dress up as a unicorn and a firm, Wright Hassall, pushing the hashtag #lawyersinlycra — a phrase we thought we’d never hear.

However, this year Legal Cheek is yet to find a lawyer as dedicated to the Tour de Law as Addleshaw associate Jonathan Brooks. Last year, he was snapped pedalling away with laptop in hand, presumably in a bid to clock up some more billable hours. Legend.
