Legal Cheek Journal competition opens — with free return transatlantic flights for the winner
Applications open today for The Global Financial Crime Blogging Prize — a competition for law students that we are running in association with US state Bar exam preparation provider BARBRI International.
An independent panel of experts will judge the entries, with the top three to be published on Legal Cheek. The winner will receive a return transatlantic flight between cities of their choosing (subject to competition rules), courtesy of BARBRI.
To enter, submit a blog not exceeding 1,000 words on a topic related to global financial crime. As Libor-rigger Tom Hayes is denied an appeal to the UK Supreme Court, and the London ‘flash crash’ trader Navinder Sarao fights extradition to the US, there is plenty to write about at the moment. And no doubt the Panama Papers leak will also offer some interesting potential blog angles.
Bloggers are encouraged to explore the legal aspects of any recent financial crime story in the news and also to consider key legislation and/or case law governing this area — such as the Bribery Act, the Money Laundering Regulations, the Proceeds of Crime Act and the Terrorism Act. Being a international competition, entries can be about a major financial crime anywhere in the world, and any relevant law which is applicable.
