COPA v Wright: The Bitcoin Case — with Bird & Bird

Tuesday 15 October, 4pm to 6pm, taking place virtually

Join us on the afternoon of Tuesday 15 October for a virtual student event with Bird & Bird, where we’ll be taking an inside look at one of the most high-profile crypto currency legal battles ever – with the lawyers who acted on it.

Earlier this year, the COPA v Wright case came to a dramatic conclusion when computer scientist Craig Wright’s claims to be the inventor of Bitcoin were debunked. Bird & Bird, a leader in Intellectual Property (IP) and media law, acted for the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) in the case and successfully disproved Wright’s claims to own IP rights to Bitcoin.

Date: Tuesday 15 October 2024
Time: 4pm to 6pm
Location: Virtual event
Level: Students, Graduates

We’ll be hearing from the Bird & Bird lawyers about what they did on the case from start to finish, providing students with an unmissable insight into real-life litigation. The speakers will also reflect on their career journeys to date and give advice to aspiring lawyers hoping to work on such matters in the future.

Ning-Ning Li, senior associate in the intellectual property team

After a presentation and Q&A, there will be virtual networking with Bird & Bird trainees, apprentices and members of the firm’s early careers team.
