Thursday 15 February, 4pm to 6:30pm, taking place IN-PERSON at the Garden Court (Building 40), University of Southampton (open to students from all universities)

Legal Cheek is coming to Southampton for the latest in its series of IN-PERSON Secrets to Success events – run in association with The University of Law (ULaw) – to help students boost their commercial awareness ahead of vacation schemes and training contract interviews.

The event takes place on Thursday 15 February at the Garden Court (Building 40) on the University of Southampton’s Highfield campus, and features lawyers from Irwin Mitchell, Shoosmiths and Womble Bond Dickinson, alongside a careers expert from ULaw.

Date: Thursday 15 February 2024
Time: 4pm to 6:30pm
Location: Garden Court (Building 40), University of Southampton
Level: Students, Graduates

The speakers will share the secrets to their own success, telling the stories of their career journeys and advising students on how they can best position themselves to obtain training contracts with leading law firms. Also up for discussion will be the key commercial awareness topics that students need to have on their radar.

The speakers

• Poppy Ford, associate in the employment team at Irwin Mitchell
Callum Larkin, associate in the banking and finance team at Shoosmiths
Georgina Hook, partner in the real estate team at Womble Bond Dickinson
Sarah Pooley, campus dean for The University of Law Southampton

After the Question Time-style discussion, which will be chaired by a Legal Cheek journalist, there will be networking over drinks and snacks with the speakers, current trainees from the firms and members of their graduate recruitment teams. It’s a great opportunity not only to meet the firms but also to check out ULaw’s new campus right in the heart of the University of Southampton, which is open to students of all universities.

Apply to attend. You’ll be asked to submit two questions for the speakers.
