What next for the global economy? With Weil, Gotshal & Manges

*FULLY BOOKED* Wednesday 11 September at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, London

The longest expansion in US economic history has been quite a ride.

From the ashes of Lehman Brothers’ bankruptcy (on which Weil’s renowned insolvency and restructuring team played a central role) and ensuing financial crisis-related litigation (another Weil strong point) emerged the green shoots of a China and big tech-led recovery, further driven by a resurgent mergers and acquisitions market, along with demand for financing a vibrant private equity debt scene.

But now what? Amid rising trade tensions between the US and China, Brexit uncertainty in Europe, a slowing global economy and falling interest rates, many are wondering if the cycle is turning. What would this mean for international business and its elite law firm advisors?

At the same time, growth in many parts of the world remains robust and there is a clear incentive for tough-talking politicians to do deals that help us to muddle through. It may be that this cycle still has some distance to run.

On the evening of Wednesday 11 September a panel of lawyers from different practice areas will gather at Weil’s London office — which offers around 15 training contracts each year — to share their experiences of advising clients over the last decade and consider the question of ‘Where next for the global economy?’

The speakers are Charles Hadley, private funds associate; Christopher Marks, international dispute resolution associate and solicitor advocate; Gemma Sage, business finance and restructuring partner; James Harvey, corporate partner; and Tom Richards, banking and finance partner. Read Tom’s insights on the global economy and forecasts for the months ahead.

The lawyers will also talk about their own career journeys, reflecting on their routes into law, while advising the next generation how they can follow in their footsteps at a time of uncertainty and opportunity. After the panel session there will be drinks and networking.

Apply to attend below. You’ll be asked to submit a CV and two questions for the panel. Please note that the details of those offered places will, subject to consent, be shared with Weil’s graduate recruitment team.
