Duo will begin training contracts at Shearman & Sterling next year

Having commenced successful careers in the City upon graduating in 2010, James Stuart and Patty Tan decided to head back to school to undertake the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) with a view to becoming commercial solicitors.

The pair, educated at the universities of Manchester and Oxford respectively, will begin training contracts at the London office of Shearman & Sterling next autumn.

With the application deadline for Shearman & Sterling’s Re-Start day for career changers closing at the end of April, Legal Cheek news editor Tom Connelly headed down to the City to meet them. They told him about what motivated their switch to the legal world, how they are finding being students again and what transferable skills helped them bag their TCs.
