BPP experts look at the recent pass rates and what they mean for would-be lawyers

The Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) remains one of the toughest milestones for aspiring solicitors, with results across both stages continuing to fluctuate and spark discussion within the profession.

During a recent online event hosted in collaboration with BPP University Law School, attendees took a closer look at the latest statistics and what they reveal about the realities of preparing for the SQE.

The session was led by Jonny Hurst, BPP’s director of outreach, alongside Caroline Rayson, SQE1 award leader. Together, they explored the reasons behind the national SQE pass rate of just 41% (July 2025 SQE1 sitting), and contrasted this with the notably stronger 82% pass rate in the following SQE2 exams. They also highlighted the factors contributing to BPP’s consistently higher-than-average performance

Following the discussion, students were able to connect directly with the BPP team through virtual networking, seeking tailored advice on exam readiness and future career steps.
