Hard pressed they may be, but that has not saved criminal law barristers and solicitor-advocates from being pestered to contribute to a pre-Christmas piss up for magistrates.
This converted shoe box was spotted in the advocates’ room at Guildford Magistrates’ Court (thanks to @MatthewIain86 for tweeting the bizarre bench begging bowl antics).
As the scribbled messages indicate, the advocates are understandably bemused and confused over the appeal. And Legal Cheek may be a bit old school, but doesn’t tipping judges come close to suggestions of bribery?
Anyway, judging (as it were) by the running total — 89p as at the time the photograph was snapped — it looks as though Guildford’s mags are going to have a fairly quiet year-end bash.
