A firefighter turned trainee barrister has become one of the stars of a Boots Christmas advertising campaign.

Lucy Masoud — who is currently studying the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) at BPP Law School’s Holborn branch — was selected by the high street staple store to feature in its festive feel-good broadcast.

‘The Gift of Beauty’ advert celebrates special individuals who can’t be with loved ones on Christmas day due to work commitments.

Masoud — who studies the bar course part time — is a firefighter in Chelsea, London, who will be working the night shift while the vast majority of us sit in front of the television in a turkey-induced coma.

The clip (embedded below) shows the 38-year-old enjoying a makeover from Boots’ beauty team, before watching a series of emotional videos from her friends and family. Joined by a host of other women who have to work on Christmas day, the firefighter then gets to enjoy an impromptu party.

But Balham-based Masoud stresses that her career aspirations lay firmly with the bar, particularly in family and criminal law. She said:

People tend to be surprised when they find out that I’m a firefighter and that I’m training to be a barrister as it’s not an obvious choice. But actually I think the skills I’ve learned as a firefighter, such as dealing with stressful situations and being able to make split-second decisions, will very much help make me a good barrister.
