41 out of 47 qualifying trainees stay put

The London office of magic circle law firm Clifford Chance has posted an autumn retention score of 87%.

Of the 47 trainees due to qualify this September, 41 will be staying on as newly qualified (NQ) associates. The Canary Wharf-headquartered giant, which takes on around 95 trainees each year, received 45 applications and made 41 offers. The firm did not disclose the departments or offices its new recruits will qualify into.

The 2019 Legal Cheek Firms Most List

Legal Cheek’s Firms Most List shows that CC’s NQs will start life on a recently improved pay package of roughly £100,000. It is worth noting, however, that the new six-figure-sum includes discretionary bonuses.

Today’s result marks a slight drop on the firm’s spring score of 90% (46 out of 51) but a notable improvement on its autumn 2018 result of 77% (36 out of 47).

Yesterday, Slaughter and May confirmed 37 out of its 40 NQs were staying put or 93%.

Can someone with experience at the firm (or any other MC firm) please provide a description of what would be expected of an NQ in a transactional department (Corporate and/or Finance)?

I am curious to know what expectations are placed on NQs in such departments, as they tend to handle a very high volume of equally high profile deals.

Thanks! 🙂

The only place to go for high profile deals is US.

Diksuk. Ur welcom.

“Forty-one out of 47 qualifying trainees” – honestly who writes like that.

Fatally ill

Ew- just through in the bin looking at that. Thank christ that got changed.

To be clear – I have food poisoning; the screen just triggered me.

CMS 4th Seat Trainee

Now worried about my application to them. Hoped retention would be lower.

As if a CMS cuck could move to CC

TRIGGERED I am telling Penny

LOL you again. Someone got rejected from CMS! Back to studying, kid. Better luck applying for a vac scheme next cycle 😉

It is lower. CC just don’t report on the hundreds of work related deaths that occur due to their slave labour practices.

And fishing turds from pools?

Hi guys

41 more fee-earners who won’t be using their famous swimming pool then.
